Let me tell you the story of how I heard about the new Starbucks Chocolate Cream Cold Brew. My cousin, who is just as obsessed with coffee as me, went to get her usual – the Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew. She noticed something on the menu and told me about it. I assumed she also ordered one of those, too, or at a minimum, was bringing one to me. But no, she just DROVE AWAY – without buying it! I could not believe that she did not ORDER IT.
So, I immediately jumped in my car and went to my nearest Starbucks, hoping that this delectable beverage was being rolled out to all locations, or at least the ones near me, and I was in luck. They had it and it was going to be mine.
Let me tell you what, friends. This drink is so good, I have been going back every single day to get another one. I’ve been bringing them to my friends and family and making them try it, too. I think – and I don’t say this lightly – that this could be the BEST Starbucks drink ever. I know, I know – bold claims. I’m not kidding, though, this is an absolute home run.
Let’s talk more about what’s inside.
Starbucks Chocolate Cream Cold Brew:
The base of the drink is the Starbucks Cold Brew, which is smooth, steeped over cold water overnight, and very low acid. It’s the heart and soul of their delicious line-up of cold brew drinks and one of my favorite cold brews around.
Then, it’s lightly sweetened with their vanilla syrup, which gives it just enough flavor and sweetness without going overboard. You can mimic this vanilla syrup with our easy recipe.
They top it off with a chocolate cold foam that is absolutely amazing. I love it even more than the sweet cream cold foam. I am not sure what they’re putting in it, rumors have it they use a chocolate malt powder to give it a soft chocolate flavor without weighing down the cold foam. Others say it’s a combo of vanilla syrup and chocolate syrup.
Whatever magic is in it, you don’t want to miss it. It’s so good. I honestly am torn between just eating the cold foam and drinking it with the cold brew. Can I have both? I wish I had both.
How many calories are in the Chocolate Cream Cold Brew?
You’ll be happy to know that a grande Chocolate Cream Cold Brew only has 250 calories – which is more than you may be looking for, but definitely less than a frappuccino or other loaded drinks.
How To Make a Chocolate Cream Cold Brew at Home:

Can you whip up one of these at home? Sure! I don’t have an exact recipe down yet, but I tried to recreate it using some simple ingredients I had at home and couldn’t believe how close it was to the real thing! You’ll only need a few ingredients and supplies:
- Starbucks Cold Brew
- Vanilla syrup
- Chocolate syrup
- A cold milk frother
Just add cold brew about 1-2tbsp vanilla syrup to a glass. Then, in a frother, add heavy cream, a dash of vanilla and 1-2tbsp chocolate syrup and froth, add to the top of your drink. Voila!
More About Starbucks Cold Brew:
Starbucks Cold Brew is made through a method of brewing that combines ground coffee and cool water and uses time instead of heat to extract the flavor. Their cold brew is brewed in small batches and steeped for up to 48 hours.
They use a premium blend of beans specifically selected to brew cold, for a smooth coffee with subtle cocoa notes.
We think the Starbucks Cold Brew is a super smooth, low acid, cold coffee that is the perfect base for any iced coffee recipe. Drink it black or add syrups and creamer to create your own favorite coffee drink at home.
Is Starbucks Cold Brew the same as iced coffee?
Great question! There are a few differences between their cold brew and iced coffee, but you can buy both at the store (and they’re both delicious).
According to their website, “Cold Brew is made without heat, which creates lower acidity for a smoother, naturally sweet taste. Iced Coffee is brewed like coffee, but double strength, and then cooled, which creates a refreshing, lighter body.”
I can say that I drink both and they’re both delicious. I did find the cold brew to be a bit smoother when black, but I don’t drink my coffee black very often, so once syrup and cream is added – they are quite similar.
