Starbucks Secret Menu: The Thin Mint Frappuccino Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day

Starbucks Secret Menu Frappuccino: The Thin Mint Frappuccino

I was feeling festive yesterday while driving through for my afternoon coffee break. I asked the barista if they had any special for St. Patrick’s Day and he suggested an older drink that is no longer on the menu: The Thin Mint Frappuccino (although the other barista called it The Grasshopper).  I jumped in, asked him to make it however they used to and happily drove away with my minty and delicious frappuccino.

Of course, I googled it as soon as I got home and saw that this Starbucks secret menu drink has gone by a variety of names over the years, including: The Shamrock Frappuccino, The Grassohpper and Thin Mint Frappuccino. Sure, the recipes are all a little different, but there doesn’t seem to be a set name for any of these. While I tend to favor The Grasshopper, I’ll tell you what’s in it, so you can order it for yourself and call it whatever you want.

So, in honor this sweet and delicious green frappuccino, perfect for St. Patrick’s Day, I’m sharing all the details on how to get one for yourself.

I saw the order pop up on the screen as he put in the details and I’ll be honest: this is not something I would order for myself or ever put together on my own.

I think I’ve had one Green Tea Creme Frappuccino – ever – and it was probably back when it was first released. Then, they add peppermint syrup (for that minty taste), frappuccino chips and heavy cream. Blend, top with whip and serve.

When he first started typing it in – I almost changed my mind. Was this going to taste good? Well, I was about to find out.

How Does It Taste?

The Grasshopper (AKA Shamrock, AKA Thin Mint) Frappuccino is actually very good! It tastes like mint chocolate chip ice cream, with a little less sugar. It is smooth, creamy and delicious.

I definitely felt like I’d had an afternoon sweet treat instead of a coffee, which I certainly am okay with on occasion.

Of course, I’m pretty sure it’s high in sugar, so this won’t be an everyday thing for me (did I mention I’ve been trying to do a sugar detox lately? Yeah….it’s not going well.)

Can I get a grande green tea frappuccino with peppermint syrup, no classic, add frappuccino chips and heavy cream?

You can also let them know that this is the Thin Mint Frappuccino from the secret menu, in case they are already familiar with it, like my barista was.
